About the museum

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Republic of Srpska grew out of solidarity: artists donated their work to a city devastated by an earthquake. Those gifts became the beginning of its collection.

The leading museum institution in Republic of Srpska dedicated to contemporary art: a centre for collecting, researching and presenting contemporary artistic practices, working closely with institutions abroad. A member of ICOM.

Once a station

The museum building was constructed in 1891 as Banja Luka’s railway station. Trains departed from it until 1968; from 1969 it served as a bus station. In 1981 it was converted into the Art Gallery, today’s museum.
